Turf in the Bog is a new San Francisco based Irish music group composed of veteran and award winning musicians from the Bay Area Yosemite Area and Ireland.
The trio consists of flute, guitar and bodhran and delivers a hard driving traditional sound.
They have recently played the Fairfax Irish Music Festival, Kern County Scottish Games, Tradfest West, Rock the Gates and were featured on KTVU Channel 2 news in San Francisco. They are looking forward to their introduction to the KVMR Celtic Festival.
The name “Turf in the Bog” came from a recording of the Irish music collector and folklorist Ciarán Mac Mathúna who read a passage from a book about villagers in Ireland sharing songs and tunes as they footed (stacked for drying) turf in the bog.
