Summer McCall is a proud northern Californian raised in the traditional Scottish music scene lead by Alasdair Fraser. Her extroverted and effervescent nature has led her down a path of a global network of musicians. As a Celtic cellist and fiddler she found her way to Boston MA for the music scene in September 2019 to further her passions and musical upbringing.

She continued her decade-long career as a music educator throughout the Covid-19 pandemic with private Zoom lessons while simultaneously developing her own musical sound. The start of the pandemic brought on the creation of Ministry of Folk – a virtual music community platform developed by Summer McCall, Sarah Collins, Brendan Hearn, Kate Gregory, and early assistance from Bandcamp’s Jackson Clawson. Ministry of Folk aims to unite and support some of the greatest musicians in the traditional Folk scene today with events, services, and means of connection.

In September 2020 she began her work with the legendary Folk venue Club Passim located in Cambridge MA in Harvard Square. She works as their Marketing & Membership manager. In August 2021 she began her role as the lead organizer for the Boston Celtic Music Festival.

Her most recent career endeavor consists of her side work with the renowned string company D’Addario as a clinician for their Strings 101 program through their Orchestral Educational department.

Summer studied Cello Performance with a minor in Spanish at Humboldt State University in beautiful Arcata, CA. She attended the Berklee College of Music 5-week Summer Program in 2010 for folk cello where she studied with professors such as John McGann and Mimi Rabson. She has attended dozens of fiddle camps since the age of 13, primarily those run by Alasdair Fraser. From these camps she has studied and become close friends with her greatest musical inspirations such as Natalie Hass, Mike Block and Tristan Clarridge. She now teaches at music camps such as Alasdair Fraser’s Sierra Fiddle Camp and Lark Camp as either a cello or dance instructor.

With an abundance of musical/networking motivation and inspiration, Summer’s future is full of potentials and always open to new projects that benefit the greater music community.
