Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Grammy-nominated fiddler Natalie MacMaster grew up immersed in the traditional Celtic dance music of the area. At 16, she self-produced her first album, Four on the Floor, and has since released 15 more albums, most recently Canvas in 2023. MacMaster’s virtuosity on the fiddle and her dedication to traditional music has established her as a renowned ambassador of Cape Breton music.
Donnell Leahy is known for his exceptional fiddling skills and is considered one of the world’s best. He was the frontman and musical leader of the family band “Leahy” for over 15 years. Leahy’s Irish and Cape Breton heritage contributes to his unique sound.
Both Natalie and Donnell and their family synthesize traditional influences with more contemporary Celtic/ folk sensibilities. In their musical repertoire, you’ll find an exciting mix of music from their Cape Breton roots along with tunes from Scotland and Ireland,as well as American bluegrass.
Natalie and Donnell have toured the world together and even feature their seven music-loving children in their performances! They’re bringing the family for the KVMR Celtic Festival!
