The Bywater Band is one of Boston’s fiercest and most innovative Celtic ensembles.

The band draws on their roots in the Scottish and Irish traditions to create blazing tune sets and unique arrangements of songs. Their music is infused with original compositions, improvisation, and tones of American roots music, giving it a fresh and unique feel.

The band is lead by piper/singer Elias Alexander, (Soulsha, MAC, Seven Nations, Fàrsan), who has performed several times at the KVMR Celtic Festival. It also features the talents of Scottish National Fiddle Champion and Glenfiddich champion Maura Shawn Scanlin on fiddle, Boston’s own Eamon Sefton on guitar, and Patrick Bowling on flute, whistle, and step dance. They came together in the thriving traditional music scene of Boston, where they got their start at Boston’s Celtic Music Festival.

The Bywater Band’s dedication to infusing the tradition with new tunes and songs, plus their passionate performances and blazing tight virtuosity, has made their debut album, Bywater, beloved of listeners across the country. They remind us of why traditional music continues to be relevant across continents and generations.
